Original Music Composition
There is no doubting that Nimrod's composition team is a
creative and critically acclaimed bunch of musical brains -
having worked on over 60 titles accounting for over 50
million sales, their track record speaks for itself.
Nimrod's composers are experienced in all major genres of
music; from full orchestral composition, to punk, funk and
everything in between. Whatever your creative brief
requires we have a compositional talent experienced in the
music and games industry that can provide the soundtrack
your project deserves.
Music Supervision
Our Music Supervision Department has a wealth of experience working alongside the World's leading film producers, game developers and publishers, ensuring that the most creative, cost effective and time efficient music brief is created for your project. Nimrod has recently partnered with Marc Marot, the former president of Island Records and a vastly experienced film music supervisor. His credits range from 'Angel Heart' at the beginning of his career to 'Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels', and the 4 million selling 'Notting Hill' soundtrack. Marc has recently been appointed as head of music for the newly formed $106,000,000 UK based film production fund 'CinemaNX'.
We consider it essential that the client is assisted in creating a music brief that is culturally significant, and that the process of realising the soundtrack is carried out to the highest standards possible.
Sound-Alike Composition
Sometimes there is no need to spend tens of thousands of
pounds on expensive licensed tracks. In the context of the
game it really doesn't make enough of a difference to justify
the price tag.
Nimrod's production staff has built an awesome reputation
by recreating famous tracks of the past and present, and
composing stunning pastiche tracks that convey all the
feeling of the original track but at a fraction of the cost.
Recent work in this area of production has been rewarded
by a BAFTA nomination for the Reservoir Dogs soundtrack.
Licensing Music
Nimrod's music supervision service has been prolific since
its launch in 2005 and in total has licensed over 350 tracks
for high profile video game releases. We make licensing
budgets go a long way and design music briefs that are
compelling to the ears of the gamer. We can create a
soundtrack full of classic tracks or obscure but great older
tracks.
If you are keen to expose new talent, we can liaise with our
A&R friends in the music industry to source you budding
current acts. Working with our contacts, we can get highly
competitive rates and access to music catalogue that can
often be a minefield for other supervisors to license.
Nimrod was recently nominated for an MTV Award for the
Driver Parallel Lines soundtrack.
Nimrod Studio Orchestra (NSO)
Established in 2002, the NSO was the first orchestra set up
specifically for the needs of the video game industry and
has developed in to one of the finest session orchestras in
the country. Using the best session players in the UK, many
of which have performed on countless blockbuster movie
scores (Star Wars, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings to name
a few), the NSO is an orchestral service that brings a level
of class and professionalism to your soundtrack.
Under the watchful eye of Nimrod's orchestral director, Jon
Williams, the NSO can be tailored to suit the needs of your
project. From a 90 piece orchestra with choir, to a smaller
more intimate quartet arrangement - we can deliver
orchestral recordings that directly compete with the big
budget Hollywood scores. We strive to provide a sonic
experience of the highest quality, thus using the legendry
Abbey Road studios for the majority of our live orchestral
projects.
We also have a relaxed approach to filming the orchestra in
action so you can gather valuable assets for your 'making
of' videos.
The NSO can be hired and managed independently from
Nimrod's in-house composers. Thus, if you have hired a
composer and want them to have a reliable, experienced
and well-coordinated orchestral team to support them we
can provide this service.
The NSO is currently preparing to perform Marc Canham's
Far Cry 2 soundtrack at Abbey Road.
Live Recording And Post Production
One of the key areas that set Nimrod apart from many of its
competitors is our insistence on getting specialists in at
every stage of the music making process. Our in-house
producer, recording engineer, mix engineer and mastering
engineer have over 50 combined years of experience in the
music industry. We avoid using sample sets wherever
possible - if the music for your project requires a big band
sound, then we record a big band. If a soloist performance
is what is needed, you can count on us to find the artist that
is right for the job.
Marketing
The video game industry hasn't been the best at exploiting
the musical opportunities of a soundtrack in the past. It is
our job on many of the projects that we compose or
supervise to create added exposure of the game through
the music. Music has a much longer life cycle than the
game itself; if we promote the music in the right way
through mainstream or specialist press, internet sites and
TV, we can broaden the exposure of your product and help
drive soundtrack sales (of which the publisher gets a
percentage). It's a win-win situation.
During past projects we have collaborated musically with
famous artists such as Iggy Pop, Public Enemy, The Yeah
Yeah Yeahs and Grandmaster Flash. Most of these
collaborations resulted in the relevant projects being
indirectly advertised through prime time MTV coverage.
Another example of music working for the game was
recently illustrated when we were able to secure front page
plugging on iTunes sites across the globe for one of our
soundtrack releases.
Legal Services
In addition to the above services, we also provide a
musicologist service that can identify any areas that you
should be concerned about in regard to the legality of your
game's proposed musical content. You can consequently
rest reassured that the music within your product does not
infringe any copyright law which, at worst, can lead to your
product being removed from the market.
Voice Recording, Localisation And Culturisation
Through a strategic partnership with The Mustard Corporation,
Nimrod has developed three new services involving the
spoken word and musical identity of your project.
We work closely alongside experienced voice directors who
have directed projects both in the UK and the US, and have
access to the finest voice over talent across the globe. Our
joint efforts guarantee superbly performed and
professionally recorded English and FIGS scripts.
Examples of some of the wide-reaching work that we have
completed include recording Richard Dawkins narrating
'The God Delusion', children's TV animations and high
profile video games such as Pokemon and Driver Parallel
Lines.
Our localisation and culturisation services are designed to
ensure that your game works equally effectively across all
major territories. For our localisation projects we use
experienced translators and international actors to maintain
the authenticity of script and sound.
Our culturisation service was originally conceptualised
through contact with Japanese video game developers and
publishers who wanted to create products that appealed to
both the Eastern and Western market. It now stretches
across all territories where game content, including script
and music, needs to be carefully crafted to ensure it fits in
to the intended market place and does not offend, alienate
or confuse the gamer.
